He began cutting albums and touring in 1966 and continued until the end of his life, but he is best known for his hit song "Mr. Bojangles," which has been covered by many other artists. He spent the later half of his life in Austin, TX where he ran his own label Tried And True. Walker released his autobiography Gypsy Songman in 2004 and sold it through his label.
